Miss Kathy, Miss Maria and Miss Eileen
This winter, the children in Room 1 celebrated the holiday
Hanukkah by making home made potato pancakes, otherwise known as latkes.
First, we looked at the whole potatoes, and then we grated the potatoes
and watched how they changed their form. Next, we did the same to the
onion. This time we used our sense of smell. Not only did it have a strong
odor, but it also made our eyes tear. Now we added all the other ingredients
- egg, salt, pepper, and matzo meal. Then everyone had a chance to mix
the batter 10 times. This is one way we reinforce counting in Room 1.
With repetition the children really learn how to count. Finally, we fried
them up and enjoyed the delicious taste!
