Miss Jackie, Miss Peggy
Free play takes on a valued role in Miss Jackie and Miss Peggy’s Pre-K
class. The kitchen corner today may be a restaurant with a cook, waitress,
cashier and customer ordering what is listed on the menu. The block corner
may be a construction site whereby the workers are building structures with
perfect corners and towers with curved bases. Signs warning DO NOT ENTER
and DANGER may be visible as well. Pretend play is vital to a child’s
development. Children re-enact what they are learning about the world around
them, utilizing problem solving skills and emerging literacy.
