Room 6 Music Enrichment
Miss Carol, Miss Maria, Miss Kathy

During the month of November we have been discovering some enlightening facts about
the Native American Indians. We enjoyed listening to their special music. The Indians mostly played drums, flutes, and maraca-type instruments. They also created totem poles carved from tree trunks and decorated with pictures telling a story about their tribe’s history. To celebrate Thanksgiving, our class created our own Native American Indian
costumes and drums. With Miss Maria’s help, we also designed and built one big “totem pole” displaying special Indian pictographs. Pictographs are pictures that represent certain objects. This was their special type of “sign language,” and their way of communicating with others. Wearing our headdresses and necklaces, we enjoyed singing and dancing around our totem pole to authentic Indian music.
