Miss Kathy, Miss Maria
Room 1 has been busy with so many activities. We learn through many different
ways. One of our favorites is by cooking. So far we have made applesauce
and brownies. The children have an opportunity to learn many things while
cooking, as well as having fun. They are testing all their senses - by tasting
the yummy food; by smelling all of the ingredients; by watching the ingredients
change their appearance as we add more and by seeing the finished product;
and many times by touching the food. We are also learning to count, as each
child has an opportunity to stir the batter 10 times while everyone counts
out loud together. Most of our cooking experiences also tie into whatever
concept we are working on. For example, we made the brownies while working
on the color brown. By constant repetition, children can learn so many things
– and have so much fun in the process!
