Happy Valentine’s Day
A fun story for this holiday is Mouse’s First Valentine written by
Lauren Thompson and illustrated by Buket Erdogan. The story is about two
little mice and one of them is named Minka. She goes out to find different
kinds of materials to make a Valentine for her friend mouse. First she finds
red paper, then lace and ribbon, and finally paste. After she finds all
these materials, her friend mouse decided to watch Minka put all the materials
she found together. Afterwards, Minka gave her friend mouse a special Valentine’s
Day gift.
A fun activity to do after the story is to have a "heart hunt."
Multiple hearts in each of the three colors (red, white, and pink) are hidden
around the classroom. Each child is given a chance to locate the hearts.
When all the hearts are located each child is asked to sort his/her collection
by color and then count the number of each color they find.
